Firstly, this paper critically analyzes the research status of engineering sociology in China. Despite there are paradigms of “engineer community”, “social engineering”, “construction engineering system” and “social evaluation” and other perspectives, the relationship between projects and society is the meta-problem of engineering sociology. Secondly, the author conceives two concepts of “project-induced community” and “project-induced social action”, then using social action theory as breakthrough point to conclude the three main dimensions of social action analysis paradigm: projects and public participation, projects and involuntary resettlement, projects and social risk. Finally, the paper argues that although the debates on engineering sociology continues, yet successful “embedment” of projects is the ultimate goal of developing projects.
