This article studies the development issues of German transportation from the perspective of the transition process and present situations of its government’s management. Firstly, the paper reviews its transition process through crucial historical events that took place since the establishment of German Empire. Secondly, the paper analyzes the current German government’s management of transportation in both federal level and local level, where special attention is paid to the transportation management in the federal level - Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS), including its organizational structure and major responsibilities. Then, the paper summarizes the achievements of German government’s management on transportation development. Finally, the article discusses the lessons that can be learned from the German government’s management of transportation, which is aimed to support the development of integrated transportation in the context of the establishment of Chinese super Ministry of Transport.
